How To Write Online And Fully Engage Your Readers

How To Write Online And Fully Engage Your Readers

In order to earn income online from home you need to know how to write online. Content is the one weapon you have of engaging your target audience. Anything else you hear people doing on the web so as to make money comes in second.

I know you are asking yourself, what does writing online got to do with getting the full attention of my site visitors? It could be you have optimized your content to a level that you are generating good traffic. But on the other hand, you want your readers to get more involved and take action. This action can be in form of purchasing your affiliate products, subscribing to your list or linking back to your content.

Whatever it is that you want to achieve from your site, learning how to write online can take your home business to the next level. There are two aspects about writing online that you need to seriously consider.

First, your content should be friendly to search engines. You can have very great content but if your articles are ranking low people may never get to find and read them. This is why keyword research and optimizing of your written content is important.

Secondly, as you write online realize that human beings are the ones that will be reading your content. Do not concentrate too much on optimization and forget to write for people. If you add keywords inappropriately people will not understand what you have written. In the process you will loss customers.

Here are 4 basics tips on how to write online and get your target audience engaged:

1. Tell your readers to take action: It is always advisable to assume that your readers do not know what they need to do. Research has shown that over 300 million new people surf the internet every day. These are people that are newbies and need to be guided on what to do.

You will be amazed how readers click on a button you tell them to press. Therefore as you write online, in between or at the end of your articles you should ask your visitors to take some kind of action.

The more you engage your readers the more they will stay on your site. If you ask a professional blogger, they will tell you that retaining visitors on your site is the secret to making money online from home.

Some of the actions you can tell your visitors to take are signing up to your email list, sharing your content or posting a comment. But remember, your content needs to be insightful and educative in order to keep readers glued to the end.

2. Writing in the second person: Personalizing your content is one of the best ways of getting the full attention on your readers. Do not treat your articles or blog publications as formal essay papers.

Write online in a way that each reader will feel like you are directly addressing them. An easy way to achieve that is by the use of a simple word, “YOU”. Using the word YOU in your articles, ensures you personalize your content.

Below are two sentences that mean the same but each have a different touch:

a)      “Most people face difficulties when it comes to building online presence and generating sales leads to their blogs.”

b)      “You face difficulties when it comes to building online presence and generating sales leads to your blog.”

Both of these sentences are well constructed and drive the point home so perfectly. Readers will probably concur with what these sentences are trying to pass on. But with sentence “a” readers will distance themselves and perhaps ask what that has got to do with them.

As for sentence “b” you are directly addressing your reader and letting him see the problems he is encountering. Phrasing your sentences in this manner will necessitate your blog visitors to think and say, “This guy is right in saying so. I should read this article to the end and see what solutions he has provided for me.”

If this is not engaging your readers, then I don’t know what else is? Rarely do visitors read articles to the end; in fact studies show that most people just scan through written content. But if you can capture readers’ attention by personalizing your content, you are good to go.

Again, for them to read to the end your content has to be rich and full of valuable information.

3. Avoid using difficult vocabularies: At all cost, kindly avoid using hard terminologies as you write online. Hard vocabularies usually make you appear as a boastful and a bighead person. This is not the way to get the attention of your blog visitors.

The internet is filled with people from all walks of life and you want to benefit from everyone that comes to your blog. If someone has to get a dictionary to understand what you are talking about, he/she will feel silly and thus will leave your site very fast.

No one wants to feel unlearned or brainless, therefore write online using simple and easy to understand expressions. When writing online use the same phrases you would use when talking to a friend. An article should always seek to make the reader feel like you are having a conversation and terminologies can never help you achieve that.

Having said that, there are some niches that you may be required to use hard terminologies to get your audience and appear learned. These include sites that are targeted to certain professions like doctors, software developers, architects and the like.

how to write online4. Write online in point form: Somewhere in this article we mentioned how internet users mostly like scanning through written content. People scan through videos titles, search results and article titles until they something grabs their attention.

This is an indication that you need to take your time to come up with catchy headlines. But what happens once you get people to click on your article headline on a search result?

You need to make it easier for readers to scan through and know what you have written. The simpler your articles are to read the more you will engage your readership.

One of the best strategies of helping your readers scan through your content is writing online in point form. One aspect of expert authors is that they use sub headings, bullets, numbers, and bolding of words in their articles. It is easier for someone to know what your article is about by reading a list of points rather than going through endless paragraphs.

In some instances, you may find that you cannot use bullets in your articles. Instead of forcing the bullets, you can use sub headings and points that you feel are important you can make them bold. This will help your readers know exactly where your valuable content is thus read with ease.

Where you find that you can’t use point form or subheadings, ensure that your paragraphs are short. On every paragraph use two at three sentences by focusing on one point.

Summary: Making money on the internet is dependent on how you write online. Your content should always be aimed at giving solutions to people’s needs within your niche. If your content arrangement makes it easy for people to get what they are searching for, you will boost the chances of capturing your readers’ full attention.
